Global Volunteer is part of the volunteer activity’s agenda, which involves international participants in construction or non-construction activities. During the covid-19 pandemic, construction activities involving international volunteers (Global Village Program) were not available. However, there were non-construction activities provided through the employment of virtual meetings, such as:
A.Virtual Build.
Virtual Build Activity was a project created in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity Japan that aimed to build one house for a low-income family in the Tuksono sub-district, Sentolo District, Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta. Virtual Build adopted the Global Village activity, but there was no volunteer involvement during the building process. Virtual Build could be successfully conducted thanks to the participation of American Schools in Japan.
B.Virtual GV Reunion Habitat Japan Campus Chapter
The activity gathered all Habitat Japan volunteers who joined the Global Village program in Indonesia from 2015 to 2019. The virtual GV reunion was attended by more than 40 participants as they shared various personal experiences in Indonesia’s Global Village Program during the session.
The program offered volunteers a prospect to lend their strength and time to build and renovate houses in 40 countries where Habitat serves the world. Habitat Indonesia is one of the countries that held the event. 10-50 volunteers from each country were chosen to build a partnership with the local community, conduct humanitarian actions, monitor housing needs, and become a part of the community. The program ran for 7-10 days.
Ways to Join the Cause
Global Volunteer is an opportunity given to volunteers from across the world. To join the cause, prospective volunteers must contact Habitat in their country to be provided with essential preparation upon entering Indonesia, from the planning to the financing. Habitat for Humanity Indonesia will act as a host country that arranges volunteer schedules in Indonesia, whether for the building project or cultural activities.
